Intimate Relationships
Why do most relationships fail? It’s not due to the causes traditionally ascribed to the failure of marriages or relationships, such as religious incompatibilities, cultural differences, sexual difficulties, or financial problems. Relationships fail because of the psychological defenses each partner brings to the relationship. Most people say that they want love and positive acknowledgment, but relatively few people can tolerate real love and respect from another person because it threatens these defenses.
Sexuality
Although sexuality is one of the greatest pleasures in life and a special opportunity for gratification and fulfillment, it represents an aspect of life that is complex and difficult, and sometimes even traumatic. Both men and women are confused about themselves as sexual beings and are vulnerable to destructive internal voices and self-attacks that have been incorporated during their developmental years.
Parent-Child Relationships
All parents want the best for their children and are concerned with their well-being and happiness. At the same time, many parents find themselves limited to varying degrees in their ability to provide the love, warmth, direction and control necessary for their child’s optimal emotional development.
